One had always looked on American Exceptionalism as a gold standard, an unshakable truth.
But now, since the witch has been promoted beyond her talents, she has begun to let go of any one she sees as better than herself.
In their place she hires people a lot less qualified than the ones she "let go".
Well, some left because they didn't feel happy there any more.
They weren't all furloughed or fired.
The department has lost its prestige.
Its longevity is being questioned.
Mediocrity is being upheld as the standard to aspire to.
Any place where threats and bribery and prostitution trump hard work and honesty, this is sure to happen.
This is true of any de facto banana republic...
