Promotion

A friend's daughter graduated from Carnegie Mellon U. and found an internship here in town and chose to stay after as she gets to stay with her parents and hopefully pay off that student loan a little quicker.
Her supervisor assigned her work that took her on the road each day, several miles away, and back.
11 months later the witch assigned her a desk job in the corporate office, no promotion, just a lateral move with the advantage of a 9-5 schedule, and a much shorter drive to work.
E-V-E-R-Y  D-A-Y the witch whispers in this kid's ear, in the morning, at lunch, and before she leaves work,"Never forget, you were a field nigger. I made you a house nigger."
Kid is sick of it.
And she says she will never forget.
She vows to never forget.
